Loren fishing ...looks like Greg did at same age
The fish hooked the boy
Once upon a time, there was a young boy who caught a fish ...a smallish bass that was held up proudly for a photo op. That boy didn’t hook that fish ...that fish hooked that boy.

For almost 5 decades, Greg Young, the visionary leader of Sandabs has loved fish. It is his passion and his life. He has braved the oceans, rivers and streams, desk jobs that crisped his sea loving soul, fisheries collapsing and economic downturns. AND through it all, his love of fishing, sourcing fish, preparing fish and bringing the freshest seafood possible to others has never dimmed. Anything fish is Greg’s life signature.

In the early 2000s Greg started Young Brothers Fish, a Farmer’s Market venture, named after his two sons, Drew and Loren. In 2008, after the devastating collapse of the Salmon fisheries, Greg and his wife Edyta launched two new ventures ...Sandabs Seafood and Wine Bar, (located in the old lodge at historic Camp Evers*) and a baby daughter Elly. Both are now 3 years old.

With the continued collapse of the local fisheries and the rising cost of fish and fuel, Young Brothers Farmer’s Markets has had to be disbanded, but Greg’s love of fishing and bringing fresh fish to the public remains. Weekly, Greg processes hundreds of pounds of fresh fish. You can enjoy the fruits of his labors in the dining room or by buying fresh fish to take home to cook. Greg also catches and cans sardines and pickles fresh caught herring. For him, getting up at the crack of dawn and working until well into the night is standard. And why does he do it? All for the love of a fish ...who hooked that child within the man many, many years ago.

* In the early 1920s, Edward Evers established Camp Evers at the junction of the State Highway and Mt. Hermon Road. Camp Evers consisted of a small store, gas pumps, dance hall and tents, becoming a resort and rest stop for travelers. From its early years as a stop on the stage route across the mountains, the Scotts Valley area has provided services to travelers. With the growing popularity of the automobile in the early 20th century, the area became commercialized and tourism developed as a local industry.
